The Canadian Tulip Festival: Celebrating History and Beauty

Spring is in full bloom, and nothing quite captures its beauty like a field of tulips. And what better place to experience it than the Canadian Tulip Festival, an annual celebration of the vibrant tulips that grace the capital city of Canada, Ottawa. This year, the festival is running from May 12-22, and promises to offer an array of exciting activities and events for all ages. As a proud sponsor of the festival, The Tulip Team welcomes you to join us in this celebration of history and beauty.

Here are just a few of the activities taking place during the festival:

To kick off the festivities, the Royal Canadian Navy will put on an impressive display on the water at Dow’s Lake on May 12th, as a part of their partnership with the festival. On land, the Canadian Remembrance Torch will be lit and the National Band of the Naval Reserve will parade down Queen Elizabeth Drive. This is just the start of the dramatic 71st Canadian Tulip Festival that you won’t want to miss.

Blacklight on The Boardwalk

For a unique experience, don’t miss the FREE Blacklight on the Boardwalk display at Dow’s Lake, where you can see the world of tulips through the eyes of a pollinator. The ultraviolet spectrum of the display will allow you to see the tulips just as bees and butterflies do, giving you a fun and educational experience of the crucial role pollinators play in our environment.

Another exciting event is the Ghosts of the Glebe walking tour, where you can hear haunting stories of the ultimate sacrifice made by Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Reservists and other soldiers who fought for freedom. Presented as a 45-minute four-person play, the tours run daily from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm, every half-hour for $20 per person, with children 12 and under FREE.

Closing Ceremony

Immerse yourself in a poignant and memorable experience at the 71st Canadian Tulip Festival’s closing ceremony. On May 22nd, 2023, join us at HMCS Carleton by Dow’s Lake at 9:45 pm to pay tribute to the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Together, we will ignite the Canadian Remembrance Torch and embark on a solemn procession to the iconic Man With Two Hats statue, where we will symbolically extinguish the flame. This moving ceremony is open to all, and we encourage you to bring your cellphone, representing the light of individual candles, as we honor their memory.
